50 Projects / 25 Years | From Minimal to Manse

PRESS RELEASE: 50 PROJECTS / 25 YEARS FROM MINIMAL TO MANSE
Since relocating his architectural practice from Manhattan to Bridgehampton in 1984, Preston T. Phillips has earned twenty-five years of national exposure from his Bridgehampton base. He has completed projects in thirty-eight states as well as the United Kingdom and The British Virgin Islands, however it is his work on The East End that has provided the most professional acclaim. In recognition of this quarter century milestone, his firm is planning a year long retrospective of his fifty East End projects.

Each month residences will be selected which conveys the broad range of Mr. Phillips’ varied portfolio from large (a 12,000 square foot Shelter Island shingle style cliff dwelling), to small (the 1000 square foot critically acclaimed Butterfly House in East Hampton), to new (a 14,000 square foot modernist oceanfront home in Southampton), to historic (the renovation of an 1848 Sag Harbor Captain’s Manse), to modern (Mr. Phillips personal residence in Bridgehampton which was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest), to traditional renovations (the Bridgehampton compound known as “The Barnyard”, a Metropolitan Home cover).

These projects all convey Mr. Phillips’ interest in creating distinctive solutions for clients who have eschewed the cookie cutter approach to design and who seek homes more reflective of their personal and professional values.  They also represent his long held practice of partnering with East End realtors, contractors, vendors, artists, interior designers and landscape professionals.

Watch for these and other illustrations of Mr. Phillips’ oeuvre in the coming months, including his vision for a new technologically advanced 21st Century “Kinetic House” archetype, which reflect his ongoing commitment to The East End, its history as a proving ground for American residential design, and its unique environmental legacy.
